What is your opinion about restricting freedom of speech during wartime?

does this include the war on terror, which is a nonconventional war? Should this be applicable if American citizens participate in any conflict?

I think the restriction of freedom of speech is always a bad thing, and possibly even more so in a time of war. If people aren't allowed to speak out against something as influential as a war, then why even give them freedom of speech at all? People won't even care about voicing their opinions about anything if they know their voices won't be heard when they want them to be the most.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

No freedoms should be restricted during war-time or any other time. What's the point of having freedoms if you just going to throw them out the window when we choose?

Bad idea to restrict the freedoms you are fighting to sustain.

For years, during the Iraq war, when Bush was in power...all you heard from the right was the admonition...directed at the left, "Shut up! You're 'emboldening' the enemy!"

Those goofy neo-cons. The only free speech they care about is their own. Their idea of "free speech" is strictly about demeaning anyone who is not them.

freedom of speech should be allowed at any and all times, as long as it does not infringe app on the rights of other citizens, just as stated in the constitution. sometimes people forget our founding fathers wrote an instruction book for these things.

On anything pertaining to strategies being used or being planned for use. Anything that would endanger our soldiers if leaked to the enemy should not be said. Criticizing the war should be kep free, free speech is far too important to be stopped.

It was wrong when Woodrow Wilson used it against the American people and it's still wrong for government to suppress the people.

I think it's wrong. The first amendment stands in both a time of war and peace.

FDR restricted free speech rights during WWII, by banning press, etc that was critical of the war effort.

Freedom of speech is even more important during war, as long as the national security is not compromised.
