How to write a speech on the end of the world 2012?


I have to write a speech about the whole 2012 world ending phenomenon. I don't know how to start, what to include, what not to include, where to find information. So any speech suggestions, sources, or information would be so helpful!!

The essay has to be a minimum of 4 minutes and has to keep the audiences attention (and I Have to memorize it.

i don't beleive in 2012 but i was going to explain the mayan calendar and why some people do and overall just explain the whole situation

nhamilton1 		The 2012 world ending phenomenon is the result of a hoax being perpetrated by cracpots and con artists to make money.

Here is an excellent website that covers all the various claims about 2012 and about the charlatans who are promoting it. You can find all the information you need there. They give sources for their information and they aren't selling anything. The other links are NASA Senior Scientist Dr. David Morrison, Dr. Donald Yeomans of JPL Near Earth Object Program, and Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Director of the Hayden Planetarium, all saying that the 2012 tripe is, well…..tripe.

russo01 		No, not at all. Please don't worry about what you might have heard on TV, the radio or in the movies. Their reasons are all bunk.

The sad part about all the 2012 uproar is that so many of its components are recycled. Just about any of the astronomical "catastrophes" have been the subjects of warnings before this. The likelihood of any of those occurring is 0.

The only thing new that is brought to the table is the Mayan long-count calendar. The turnover of the longest component of that calendar is about as important as New Year's Eve. All it says is the current cycle ends and a new cycle begins, period, end of story.

Geological studies have shown that the poles have shifted many time in the past. It never destroyed the world and there is no reason to think it will in the future.

Mass die-offs of animals are really nothing unusual, see the 8th citation below.

Are you worried about "all the earthquakes we've been having"? You shouldn't be. According to the United States Geological Survey, in an average year there are 134 large (Magnitude 6.0-6.9) 15 major (Magnitude 7.0-7.9) and 1 Magnitude 8.0+ earthquakes. There have been two big quakes near the US this year, so there is more publicity then we might usually get.

So what will happen? The world will go on. A lot of worried people will feel stupid. A lot of stories will run about the big anti-climax, for about a week or so. And the main hoaxers, will quietly slip out of sight, to reappear in a few years for the "next end-of-the-world" scenario, likely 2029-2033: the 2000th anniversary of the Crucifixion (year depending which chronology you accept).

It will <<also>> give you all of the reasons that every one of those ideas is wrong/fake/fraudulent.

I can't tell if you are supposed to support or debunk the idea of the end of the world. I hope that your talk will be able to present, then debunk, some of those fake theories. We really do not need to have more people get worried about a non-existent threat.
