Help getting a song to play for the whole slide show (PowerPoint 2010)?

So I did:
Insert > audio > selected my file > went in the playback tab > selected "play through slides"...
and it doesn't play when i turn on the slide show. I have the little sound icon on the first slide and nothing happens. What did I do wrong??
Thanks!! :) x

Make sure you're on the first slide, then go to Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File. Then choose the sound file. Next, click "Automatically", then go to Slide Show > Custom Animation and make sure the settings are set to have it play throughout the presentation.

1. You must be in slide show view to hear music. Are you?

2. Did you select the option for the music to play "automatically" or when you "click"?

3. What is your music file type? You might be trying to use a type that Powerpoint can't play. An example of what it CAN play is .wav, .mp3, .m4a
